Cubase doesn't even have a good step sequencer or pattern editor, among other things. Especially if you're predominantly a beat maker. The only compromise solution (cross platform is Studio One 5 Professional), but that's even a hard sale for the same reasons Cubase is.
BUY CUBASE PRO
I would get Cakewalk and buy Serato Sample, or buy Logic Pro if on macOS. If you already own Komplete 11/12/13, then absolutely I would not buy Cubase. You're better off just adding Cakewalk and buying a Serato/Battery for less than the cost of Cubase Pro or Artist. It's Cubase Pro or bust, and that's hard to justify if you already have FL Studio. Serato and Battery are still a lot better than Sampler Track 2 and Groove Agent SE 5, so you won't get industry-leading performance there.
BUY CUBASE PROFESSIONAL
Nothing lower than Cubase Pro is worth paying for without a legit professional rationale on Windows - due to Cakewalk by BandLab existing within that tier of the market (Cubase Elements/Artist) and Logic Pro's value proposition on macOS. Invest in Serato Sample and/or Komplete 13 (during a sale) for Battery 4 and everything else. I would stay on FL Studio and just add Cakewalk by BandLab (if on Windows) or Logic Pro X (if on macOS), then buy Serato Sample (if on Windows). Happy to answer other questions if you like. It has limited compatibility with EastWest sounds. It’s a lot of mousing and clicking around, even though I use tons of keyboard shortcuts There are often 3 different ways to do something Its interface is overwhelming, at least at first There is not a whole lot of documentation in general There are a million buttons and settings, so it can take awhile to troubleshoot a “bug” - often it’s just that your xyx parameter was set to Q, but you didn’t see it because you had your editing panel set to “channel plugins” instead of “editor” I’d list functionality I like, but don’t want to be redundant - I’m sure lots of it is also possible in FL NB that I am self-taught and not by any means an engineer! I also routinely have 20+ tracks on a project. I have Pro version because I write classical / orchestral and choral music as well as ambient / film / beats, so I use the variable tempo and other automations a lot. I have limited experience with Logic, and GarageBand ofc Cubase is actually my first DAW. consider trying ableton before sinking your money! I didnt go ableton because of the 4x price there is a limit for tracks in elements so be aware of it, you can hit it very soon with a lot of samples recording audio is your enemy in fl studio, cubase seems to be more friendly in this regard
cubase design is scary, but you will find your way i think automations are more straightforward but more limited in cubase, for example, sidechaining automation in fl is crazy but works great, im yet to discover to do something similar in cubase
if you have fl with its plugins you can use fl as a vst in cubase, sounds crazy af but it works if you really need harmor or something fl piano roll completely blows cubase one, this is the thing i miss most its hard to find good courses for elements so i went with pro course and its pain in the ass to skip all parts elements is missing cubase elements is very basic, i think 11 now allows sidechaining but without send it will be super hard, there are a lot of missing stuff, even variable tempo in fl you create mess by default and spend a lot of time managing it, in cubase everything seems to be in place and you really need to take time to create a mess - i mean, how many times you looked at fl mixer and went to find what the hell is routed to this insert and what pattern makes that sound?
I bought cubase elements just some days ago after completely getting to hate fl studio after releasing some albums, so far my observations:
